That is one of the worst license plate locations i’ve ever seen.

That’s funny, because in my mind all of the Corollas of that generation were those hatchbacks. Haven’t seen one in many years, the rustmonster claimed them all around here.

That might be the body, but I fail to see the style.

Same here. They used to be everywhere. Then they weren't.

We had a 1983 2-door when I was in high school, conveniently painted to match the rust. I don't know how it was even still alive then.

It’s weird how that happens. Think how rarely you see a first gen minivan, a first gen Escort, or even a square-body Chevy work truck.

It was always the rust that got those old Japanese cars. When I was a baby, my Dad left the house to find their then nine year old ‘72 Datsun B210 dead in the driveway. The right side strut towers had collapsed, and the rocket panel was laying on the ground.

Datsuns were brutal. We had a 510 wagon when I was a baby and i think it lasted just as long. Sad, because they made some nifty cars.

Or like the Previa the other day. I haven’t seen a non-scary one in person in years. But you and others had first hand experience.

Thinking of the first gen Escort.. Find me a Mercury Lynx.

Ha! I forgot about the Lynx!

I saw this Escort the other day and forgot to post it

They did, but they’re pretty much all gone now.

A friend of my parents had repainted the B210 a few years before it collapsed. He warned them it was getting soft and they should really get rid of it. They should’ve listened.

My first car was an 83 Lynx that my parents bought new. I killed it in 1990 with less than 30k on the clock.

Yes. I feel bad about that. Still..

That’s a Gen 1.5 Escort. Big points for a 2 door!

First gen Escorts are worth a fair sum now, especially the RS ones!

Yeah, you guys got cool Escorts in Europe. A first gen Escort in the US is this FWD garbage.

You should feel bad! ;)

One of my best friends was given a ‘90 2-door Escort for a first car. He managed to nurse that pile along for a few years. I remember once he had to drive on the shoulder of 294 when it was backed up, because it was overheating.

I saw a proper first gen Escort last year, and it was CLEAN. I almost spit my coffee out when I saw it. We were both moving, so no pic of that one.
